Ava’s New Apartment Bedroom
A grown-up college bedroom in soft blues, greens, and rattan.
When Ava moved into her new apartment, she wanted her bedroom to feel like a real home, not a dorm. We started with a calm palette of creamy whites, soft blue and fresh green, so the room feels light and happy but still classic enough to grow with her.
Start with the bed. An upholstered wingback headboard instantly makes a room feel finished. And this one was perfect for stretching her budget! We layered crisp white bedding with blue patterned shams and a few green accent pillows. It’s an easy way to add color without committing to it, since pillows are the simplest thing to swap later.
Make the nightstands do double duty. These rattan nightstands bring warmth and texture, and the lower shelf gives her extra storage for coordinated boxes and baskets. Pale blue gourd lamps and a little vase of white hydrangeas make each side feel pulled together.
Use mirrors to stretch the space. Hanging a mirror above each nightstand makes a smaller room feel bigger and brighter. These wavy frames add a little charm without feeling too trendy.
Art makes it hers. A soft landscape painting over the bed ties all the colors together, and a grid of four botanical prints adds a gallery feel for less than one big statement piece.
Work with what you have. Ava already had a spindle chair like this one. A new lumbar pillow made it feel brand new and part of the room.
